Senior Community Manager - Job Summary
Lead digital engagement efforts for the dbt community, primarily managing and growing the dbt Slack community to foster a collaborative and welcoming environment for data practitioners worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operations of the dbt Slack community, ensuring a welcoming and high-quality member experience
- Partner with community leaders and internal teams to evolve channel strategy, guidelines, and engagement programs
- Develop and maintain scalable moderation and support workflows including Code of Conduct enforcement
- Coach and support moderators and community champions; recruit and onboard new moderators
- Create content systems to keep members informed and engaged through announcements and storytelling
- Share community insights and member feedback with Product, Marketing, and Support teams and close the feedback loop
- Monitor and report on engagement and health metrics and run experiments to improve community health
- Manage community tool stack for digital engagement and document best practices
- Plan and manage incident response collaboration with Legal, People, and Security teams
- Support cross-channel engagement beyond Slack including forums, social, and events
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in digital community management or online engagement in a global/distributed setting
- Experience managing large online communities (Slack/Discord/forum), including moderation and community support
- Strong understanding of online community dynamics and ability to foster trust and belonging
- Experience designing and improving moderation/support workflows including Code of Conduct enforcement
- Excellent written communication and facilitation skills, with ability to de-escalate and encourage productive conversations
- Experience using community tools and analytics to track engagement and identify trends
- Data-informed decision making with KPIs for engagement and health and reporting outcomes
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with Product, Marketing, Support, and Developer Experience teams
- Cultural fluency and sensitivity to diverse communication styles across regions and time zones
- High emotional intelligence and comfort handling complex situations
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment balancing structure and flexibility
