Director of Internal Communications and Community Engagement - Job Summary
Lead the development and execution of internal and external communications strategies that support business goals, company culture, and community engagement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development and execution of integrated communications strategy aligned with business goals and culture
- Advise CEO and executive team on communications strategy, media positioning, and crisis communications
- Develop internal communications promoting transparency, belonging, and alignment with company values
- Lead community engagement including volunteerism, corporate giving, local partnerships, and social impact storytelling
- Oversee content for Town Halls, all-hands meetings, newsletters, recognition programs, and intranet
- Collaborate with HR, IT, and Facilities to enhance hybrid workplace and wellness communications
- Drive public relations efforts including media outreach, press releases, and thought leadership placements
- Serve as spokesperson or prepare executives for public appearances and key events
- Manage media relationships and response protocols
- Partner with Marketing to align brand messaging across media channels
- Oversee social media presence and develop engaging digital content
- Monitor social sentiment and emerging channels to drive engagement and protect brand equity
- Showcase community involvement and employee volunteerism
- Draft messaging, speeches, presentations, and prepare leadership for speaking engagements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or related field
- 7–10+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, agency, media relations or related environment
- Exceptional writing, editing, storytelling, and presentation skills
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence executive stakeholders
- Experience with digital tools like content management systems, intranet platforms, social media scheduling/analytics, and Microsoft 365
- Proven ability to manage communications in fast-paced, dynamic organizations
- Strong business acumen and discretion handling confidential information
- Experience managing or supporting corporate social responsibility or community engagement is a strong plus
- Tech-forward mindset with creativity for employee engagement and digital storytelling
- Understanding of the connection between culture, communications, and social impact
- Experience in hybrid workforce setting, ideally service-based or B2C organization
- High emotional intelligence and ability to connect with diverse audiences
Education
Bachelor’s degree, preferred in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field
