Director of Education & Community Engagement - Job Summary
The Director of Education & Community Engagement is a senior leadership role responsible for advancing educational programming, community partnerships, and audience engagement to expand access to the arts and grow the organization's impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategic vision for education and community engagement aligned with organizational mission and goals.
- Serve as a senior leader and collaborate across departments to integrate education and engagement into overall strategy.
- Oversee all education programming including youth conservatory, classes, camps, workshops, and adult learning.
- Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate education staff and teaching artists.
- Develop pathways for engagement with theater arts for students of all ages and abilities.
- Manage youth productions and educational performances in partnership with production and artistic teams.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with schools, universities, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Expand school partnerships, student matinee programming, workshops, and teacher resources.
- Design audience engagement opportunities connected to productions such as talkbacks and panels.
- Represent the organization as an ambassador within the community and educational sectors.
- Collaborate closely with Artistic, Production, Marketing, and Advancement teams for program alignment.
- Work with Marketing to increase visibility, enrollment, and audience participation.
- Provide reports and updates to senior leadership, committees, and Board.
- Participate as a senior member of the leadership team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in theater, arts education, education, arts administration, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience in theater education, arts administration, community engagement, or related nonprofit arts.
- Proven success developing and leading educational programs and community partnerships.
- Experience managing staff, budgets, and multi-faceted programs.
- Track record of growing participation, revenue, and/or institutional partnerships.
- Strong relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Education
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
