Intern - Communication & Community Engagement - Job Summary
Part-time internship supporting communication strategies, social media content creation, media relations, and community engagement from August to December 2025 with possible extension.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute communications strategies including digital marketing asset creation
- Create social media content such as Instagram reels and stories
- Draft social media posts and blog content for the City's platforms
- Draft communications and marketing materials using digital software tools
- Contribute ideas to reach new audiences and strengthen community engagement
- Assist with content buildout of the City's website
- Support media relations by drafting press releases and assisting with interviews
- Collaborate with local businesses and nonprofits on engagement initiatives
- Help coordinate and execute community engagement initiatives and special events
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be age 18 or older and currently enrolled in college majoring in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field
- Valid driver's license with at least 3 years driving experience and eligible to drive a city vehicle
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize projects efficiently under tight deadlines
- Professional experience using social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
- Experience with graphic design, photography, and video
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
- Basic knowledge of SEO best practices and terminology
- Basic knowledge of email marketing best practices
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work in-person about 3 days a week, totaling 20-25 hours weekly
- Must have personal vehicle and laptop for work
- Ability to attend some evening and weekend events for onsite video and photography
Education
Currently enrolled in college majoring in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
