Community Engagement Lead - Job Summary
Lead community engagement efforts for data center projects, managing stakeholder relationships, developing engagement strategies, and ensuring consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle to support responsible development and protect the company's reputation.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with civic and community stakeholders including officials, chambers of commerce, and local organizations.
- Develop stakeholder maps with priority ranking and sentiment baselines.
- Assess community dynamics and lead early engagement to build understanding before public disclosures.
- Create and execute site engagement plans across acquisition, development, construction, and operations stages.
- Plan and coordinate community meetings, open houses, and site tours.
- Maintain issue logs, track feedback, and report community sentiment changes.
- Identify and escalate community, political, and reputational risks with relevant teams.
- Translate local priorities into community benefit categories aligned with corporate pillars.
- Develop site-specific community investment frameworks and adapt corporate engagement programs to local needs.
- Develop project plans with clear timelines and KPIs, managing budgets and expenditures.
- Coordinate with agencies and ensure smooth handoffs during site ownership transitions.
- Serve as the single community lead through all project phases, maintaining accountability and coordination.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent and compliant communications.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in community development, public affairs, communications, or related fields.
- 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in community engagement, government relations, or stakeholder management.
- Ability to build trust with officials and community leaders, managing sensitive public processes.
- Strong project management skills managing multiple sites and stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication including public meeting facilitation.
- Experience maintaining stakeholder data, issue logs, and engagement reports.
- Ability to work hybrid schedule with regular office days.
- Willingness to travel up to 50%, including overnight and occasional evening/weekend events.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in community development, public affairs, communications, political science, urban planning, nonprofit management, business, or related field, or equivalent experience
