Senior Community Manager - Job Summary
Lead digital engagement efforts for the dbt community, primarily managing and growing the dbt Slack community to create a high-signal, welcoming space for data practitioners globally, partnering with teams to enhance member experience and community insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of the dbt Slack community ensuring a welcoming and high-quality member experience.
- Collaborate with community leaders and internal stakeholders to develop channel strategy, guidelines, and engagement programming.
- Develop and maintain scalable moderation and support workflows including Code of Conduct enforcement.
- Coach, support, recruit, and onboard moderators and community champions.
- Create content systems to keep members informed and engaged through announcements and storytelling.
- Collect and communicate community insights and feedback to Product, Marketing, and Support teams, closing the loop with the community.
- Monitor and report on engagement and health metrics; conduct experiments to improve them.
- Manage community tools for engagement including Slack workflows, analytics, and integrations; document best practices.
- Coordinate incident response with Legal, People, and Security teams as needed.
- Support cross-channel digital engagement beyond Slack to ensure a cohesive member journey.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in digital community management, online engagement, or community program management in a global or distributed environment.
- Proven ability to manage day-to-day operations for large online communities including moderation and member support.
- Strong knowledge of online community dynamics to foster trust, belonging, and shared purpose at scale.
- Experience building and enhancing moderation and support workflows, including Code of Conduct enforcement.
- Excellent written communication and facilitation skills for clear, empathetic responses and conflict de-escalation.
- Proficiency with community tools and analytics (e.g., Slack workflows, Common Room) to track engagement and drive improvements.
- Data-driven decision-making abilities including KPI definition, impact measurement, and stakeholder reporting.
- Strong collaboration skills working cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Support, and Developer Experience teams.
- Cultural fluency with sensitivity to communication styles across regions and timezones.
- High emotional intelligence and ability to navigate complex situations.
- Ability to prioritize multiple work streams effectively in a fast-paced environment.
