Social Media & Community Engagement Coordinator - Job Summary
The role serves as a digital and community link between Japan Society and its audience, managing social media platforms and community outreach to drive brand engagement and partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute daily social media activities across core and emerging platforms including scheduling, publishing, and moderation.
- Develop content collaborating with programming teams to create engaging, personality-driven posts that highlight Japanese culture and institutional mission.
- Monitor and respond to community engagement in line with brand voice, escalating sensitive issues as necessary.
- Track social media analytics, report monthly performance, and identify growth opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with Japanese-American community organizations, cultural partners, and educational institutions.
- Identify and manage partnerships with local creators and influencers including coordination of access, guidelines, and ROI tracking.
- Pursue cross-promotional and community collaboration initiatives to increase reach.
- Support public relations efforts and coordinate outreach with marketing and external partners.
- Assist with email campaign coordination, project tracking, and paid social media setups.
- Draft and edit website copy, program recaps, and marketing materials to maintain brand consistency.
- Provide operational support for marketing leadership during peak periods and absences.
Requirements
- Exceptional written communication skills adaptable across digital channels.
- Proficiency with short-form video editing tools (e.g., CapCut).
- Experience growing social media channels with demonstrated portfolio or metrics.
- Familiarity with social media scheduling, monitoring, and analytics tools such as Later, Sprout Social, Meltwater, Hootsuite, or Rella.
- Awareness of digital content trends and cultural sensitivity.
- Strong project management skills to handle deadlines and live event conditions.
- Minimum 2 years professional experience in social media, communications, PR, or community engagement, preferably in cultural or nonprofit settings.
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or equivalent practical experience.
- Interest in Japanese culture, U.S.–Japan relations, or Asian-American cultural ecosystems.
- Japanese language proficiency is a plus but not required.
