Director of Jewish Life & Community Engagement - Job Summary
Lead and design Jewish Life and Community Engagement programs that foster inclusive, relationship-centered participation and community-building within JCC Harlem.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute Jewish Life programs including Shabbat gatherings, Jewish holiday festivals, arts, culture, and experiential learning for children and families.
- Design accessible programs promoting joy, belonging, and authentic community voice.
- Build meaningful relationships and personalized engagement pathways within the community.
- Ensure programming reflects racial, cultural, and spiritual diversity of Harlem's Jewish community.
- Develop and steward strategic partnerships and collaborate with Children's Enrichment team.
- Cultivate leadership opportunities within participants.
- Create Jewish learning curricula and teach select children's education programs.
- Oversee program operations including logistics, staffing, budgeting, and vendor coordination.
- Develop recruitment strategies to meet participation and growth goals, and set calendars and benchmarks.
- Supervise Jewish Life staff including Rabbi-in-Residence and Junior Shaliach.
- Identify and deepen strategic relationships within Harlem across community and religious organizations.
- Plan and manage community service programs and neighborhood-wide events.
- Manage intergroup relationship-building and dialogue efforts.
- Oversee community outreach program operations and budget management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- 5+ years of experience in community programming, Jewish communal work, or related fields.
- Experience designing, producing, and leading participatory programs.
- Strong community-building orientation with relational leadership.
- Knowledge of Jewish traditions, culture, and communal life.
- Experience with Jewish summer camp or children's experiential Jewish learning is a plus.
- Experience engaging diverse, multiracial, and interfaith communities.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Experience with Daxko, Salesforce, or other CRM systems is desirable.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
