Communication & Community Engagement Intern - Job Summary

The intern will support the Public Relations & Community Engagement Department by executing communications strategies, creating digital content, assisting with media relations, and coordinating community engagement initiatives during a part-time spring internship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute communications strategies for the department
  • Create digital marketing assets including graphics, photography, and video
  • Develop social media content for City of Fishers accounts
  • Draft posts and blog content for City communications
  • Assist with drafting marketing materials using digital tools like Sprout Social and Canva
  • Contribute ideas to expand audience reach and community engagement
  • Support media relations by drafting press releases and assisting media interviews
  • Collaborate with local businesses and nonprofit organizations
  • Coordinate and execute community engagement initiatives and special events
  • Perform special projects and other assigned duties

Requirements

  • Age 18 or older and enrolled in college pursuing related degree
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Highly self-motivated and detail-oriented
  • Ability to organize and prioritize projects with tight deadlines
  • Experience managing social media platforms professionally
  • Experience with graphic design, photography, and video
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of SEO best practices
  • Familiarity with content management systems is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of email marketing practices
  • Awareness of emerging web technologies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Creative, flexible, self-directed with strong communication skills
  • Ability to take and apply project feedback quickly
  • Ability to work in-person about 3 days a week
  • Must have vehicle and valid driver's license with 3+ years licensed driving experience
  • Must provide own laptop or computer
  • Ability to attend some events outside normal hours including nights and weekends

Education

Enrolled in college pursuing Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field
