Director of Jewish Life & Community Engagement - Job Summary
Responsible for designing and managing Jewish Life programming and community outreach efforts, fostering inclusive participation and relationships within Harlem's diverse Jewish and broader community.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute Jewish Life programming including Shabbat gatherings, holiday festivals, arts, culture, rituals, and children's experiential Jewish learning.
- Design welcoming, accessible experiences promoting joy, belonging, and authentic community voice.
- Build meaningful relationships and personalized engagement pathways for community members.
- Ensure programming reflects racial, cultural, and spiritual diversity of Harlem's Jewish community.
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships to strengthen Jewish Life offerings.
- Collaborate with Children's Enrichment team to integrate Jewish content across family programs.
- Cultivate leadership pipelines for participants to become community leaders and educators.
- Create Jewish learning curricula and program frameworks; teach select children's education offerings.
- Oversee program operations including logistics, staffing, budgeting, and vendor coordination.
- Develop recruitment strategies and set participation and growth goals with calendar planning.
- Supervise Jewish Life staff including Rabbi-in-Residence and Junior Shaliach.
- Identify and deepen strategic relationships across Harlem with various institutions and organizations.
- Plan and manage community service programs and neighborhood events with multiple partners.
- Develop intergroup relationship-building and dialogue initiatives.
- Manage program area budgets and operations for community outreach and social responsibility.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- 5+ years experience in community programming, Jewish communal work, children's Jewish enrichment, or related fields.
- Proven ability to design and lead participatory programs.
- Strong community-building skills with relational leadership style.
- Knowledge of Jewish traditions, culture, and communal life.
- Experience engaging diverse, multiracial, and interfaith communities.
- Excellent organizational and project management capabilities.
- Familiarity with Daxko, Salesforce, or similar CRM systems is desirable.
- Flexible availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Experience in Jewish summer camps or experiential children’s Jewish learning is a plus.
