Manager, Community Engagement - Job Summary

Lead the community engagement workstream for the Safe Water Project in Andhra Pradesh, driving awareness, adoption, and sustained use of safe water practices through strategy design, stakeholder coordination, and field execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead state-level community engagement workstream to promote safe water practices across program districts.
  • Design and implement community mobilization strategies with frameworks, SOPs, and guidelines.
  • Coordinate with Communications and National Office to develop culturally relevant IEC materials and campaigns.
  • Engage community leaders, government officials, water committees, and partners to enhance program reach and uptake.
  • Monitor community engagement outcomes and adapt strategies based on field data and feedback.
  • Document learnings and contribute to planning, budgeting, and cross-state learning initiatives.
  • Provide strategic oversight of water treatment training and sensitization programs, aligning with government priorities.
  • Guide Capacity Building Officer in designing and validating training curricula and materials.
  • Oversee Training of Trainers for effective skill cascading.
  • Monitor capacity building through assessments and maintain a state-wide training calendar.
  • Lead and coordinate field teams, conduct visits, assess quality, and provide program support.
  • Identify and mitigate challenges in community engagement activities proactively.
  • Review field data and provide feedback to improve performance.
  • Ensure field teams have necessary resources and support.
  • Represent organization in engagements with government and partner organizations.
  • Align community and capacity building activities with government priorities through coordination.
  • Build and maintain relationships with government officials, community leaders, vendors, and partners.
  • Support report preparation and represent workstreams in forums.
  • Manage and develop team members through coaching, performance management, and recruitment support.
  • Report progress, challenges, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to leadership.

Requirements

  • Master's degree preferred in Social Work, Rural Development, Mass Communication, Public Health, Education, or related field; Bachelor's with significant experience also considered.
  • Strong communication skills in English and Telugu.
  • 6-8 years of experience in community engagement, capacity building training, or community mobilization within development sector.
  • Willingness to travel 20–30% within and outside Andhra Pradesh.
  • Strong understanding of community mobilization, SBCC strategies, and participatory approaches.
  • Ability to conduct Rapid Rural Appraisal and analyze community data for actionable strategies.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite; familiarity with data management and reporting tools.
  • Experience managing vendors, contractors, suppliers, and Implementation Support Agency partners.
  • Experience engaging and coordinating with government stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • Experience managing geographically dispersed teams with accountability.
  • Preferred: Experience in public health or WASH/Water programs.
  • Preferred: Experience designing and implementing community engagement and training programs at scale.
  • Preferred: Experience managing projects in Andhra Pradesh with local knowledge.
  • Preferred: Experience developing IEC materials and engagement toolkits.
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of Canva or similar tools for IEC adaptation.

Education

Master's degree preferred; Bachelor's with significant relevant experience acceptable
