Communications and Community Engagement Specialist - Job Summary

Manage communication strategies and community involvement efforts; support township supervisor in administration, event coordination, and public outreach to promote transparent and engaged township government.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute marketing campaigns highlighting township parks, events, programs, and initiatives.
  • Manage Township and Parks and Recreation social media channels, including content creation and growth strategy.
  • Design marketing materials using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Maintain and regularly update Township website and Nixle.
  • Attend and document township events with photos and videos for promotions.
  • Track and report social media and campaign analytics to measure engagement.
  • Coordinate with newspapers, schools, and community groups for promotional distribution.
  • Assist with press releases, media outreach, and local sponsor partnerships.
  • Support event planning and promotion during large township events.
  • Assist Township Supervisor with communication, projects, and confidential matters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or related field.
  • 1–2 years experience in marketing, communications, or social media management; public sector or parks & rec experience a plus.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and content management.
  • Strong design skills using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools.
  • Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication and storytelling skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff and community.
  • Availability for occasional evenings and weekends for event coverage.
  • Knowledge of Commerce Township and surrounding areas is a plus.

Education

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or related field
