Communications and Community Engagement Specialist - Job Summary
Manage communication strategies and community involvement efforts; support township supervisor in administration, event coordination, and public outreach to promote transparent and engaged township government.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute marketing campaigns highlighting township parks, events, programs, and initiatives.
- Manage Township and Parks and Recreation social media channels, including content creation and growth strategy.
- Design marketing materials using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Maintain and regularly update Township website and Nixle.
- Attend and document township events with photos and videos for promotions.
- Track and report social media and campaign analytics to measure engagement.
- Coordinate with newspapers, schools, and community groups for promotional distribution.
- Assist with press releases, media outreach, and local sponsor partnerships.
- Support event planning and promotion during large township events.
- Assist Township Supervisor with communication, projects, and confidential matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or related field.
- 1–2 years experience in marketing, communications, or social media management; public sector or parks & rec experience a plus.
- Proficiency in social media platforms and content management.
- Strong design skills using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools.
- Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication and storytelling skills.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff and community.
- Availability for occasional evenings and weekends for event coverage.
- Knowledge of Commerce Township and surrounding areas is a plus.
Education
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or related field
