Director of Community Engagement and Outreach - Job Summary
Leads the strategic and operational coordination of community engagement and outreach initiatives, managing outreach programming and resident engagement to connect residents with resources and opportunities within Place-Based Initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee Community Engagement and Outreach team including Managers, Coordinators, and contractors
- Lead development and implementation of outreach plans involving canvassing, phone/text banking, and event engagement
- Ensure consistent resident engagement focused on needs identification and resource navigation
- Coordinate with teams managing later phases of engagement to align outreach with organizational goals
- Collect and use resident insights to inform programs, partnerships, and decisions
- Collaborate with internal partners to integrate resident feedback and align goals
- Provide strategic direction, staffing support, training, and workflow management
- Identify and apply best practices in outreach and community relationship development
- Support the strategic vision of Place-Based Initiatives in collaboration with leadership
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of outreach and community engagement best practices
- Strong strategic thinker with ability to align operations with priorities
- Proven ability to coach, supervise, and develop managers
- Strong cross-team collaboration and systems thinking skills
- Strong communication skills including planning, presentations, and reporting
- Experience managing multi-component projects
- Sound judgment and flexible decision-making in community environments
- Complex problem-solving and ability to anticipate operational needs
- Ability to create realistic action plans and meet deadlines
- Ability to model best practices and foster community-centered culture
Education
Associates degree or equivalent experience; advanced degree and experience considered
