Manager, Community Engagement - Job Summary

Lead the community engagement workstream for the Safe Water Project, driving awareness, adoption, and sustained use of safe water interventions through strategy design, stakeholder coordination, and field execution. Support national community engagement strategies aligned with program goals, working with various teams and government stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-lead national community engagement workstream to promote safe water practices across program states
  • Support planning and execution of community activities and develop national mobilization strategies with clear frameworks and guidelines
  • Coordinate development and deployment of culturally relevant IEC materials and campaigns
  • Engage community leaders, government officials, and partner organizations to strengthen program reach and uptake
  • Monitor community engagement outcomes and adapt strategies based on field data and feedback
  • Document learnings and contribute to planning, budgets, and cross-state learning initiatives
  • Provide strategic oversight for water treatment training and capacity building programs aligned with government priorities
  • Develop training modules, facilitator guides, and agendas to strengthen community engagement competencies
  • Oversee Training of Trainers and monitor capacity building initiatives for program and partner staff
  • Lead and coordinate field teams, conduct field visits, assess quality, and provide program and technical support
  • Review field data and provide feedback to improve community engagement and training performance
  • Provide technical guidance for partnerships with faith-based and community institutions to promote advocacy
  • Represent the organization in engagements with government and partner stakeholders
  • Align community engagement activities with government priorities and maintain strong stakeholder relationships
  • Support preparation of reports and presentations for government and internal forums
  • Manage and develop team members through coaching, performance management, and recruitment support
  • Report regularly to project leadership on progress, challenges, and strategic recommendations

Requirements

  • Master's degree preferred in Social Work, Rural Development, Mass Communication, Public Health, Education, or related fields; Bachelor's with significant experience considered
  • Strong communication skills in English and Hindi; knowledge of local languages advantageous
  • 6-8 years of experience in community engagement, capacity building, or community mobilization preferably in public health programs
  • Experience leading public health community engagement at state and national levels is advantageous
  • Willingness to travel 20–30% across project locations
  • Strong understanding of community mobilization, SBCC strategies, and participatory approaches
  • Ability to analyze community engagement data and translate insights into strategies
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Google Suite, and familiarity with data management and reporting tools
  • Experience managing vendors, contractors, and Implementation Support Agency partners with accountability
  • Experience coordinating with government stakeholders at multiple levels
  • Experience managing geographically dispersed teams and ensuring accountability
  • Desirable: experience in public health or WASH programs, community engagement strategy design, project management, IEC material development, and knowledge of Canva or similar design tools

Education

Master's degree preferred; Bachelor's degree accepted with significant experience
