Education and Community Engagement Officer - Job Summary

The role involves building positive relationships with local stakeholders and community groups, delivering education and engagement activities to promote recycling, waste reduction, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver marketing, communications and engagement activities in line with plans, working with site management and evaluating campaign effectiveness.
  • Develop and deliver awareness campaigns and community events promoting recycling and sustainable behaviours.
  • Organise and deliver educational programmes for schools and community groups aligned with the National Curriculum.
  • Plan, manage and host site visits, open days and tours ensuring safety, engagement and effective coordination, including creating supporting materials.
  • Act as the first point of contact for community enquiries and complaints, ensuring timely, professional responses and maintaining communication channels including the website.
  • Represent the service at stakeholder meetings and lead external communications to enhance the site’s profile and reputation.

Requirements

  • Previous employment experience in a relevant industrial or commercial environment.
  • Good understanding of environmental issues and waste management practices.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience and understanding of social media platforms for communication and engagement.
  • Willingness to undergo a CRB (DBS) disclosure check.
  • Availability for some evening working.
