Communications Intern - Job Summary
A college intern role supporting communications and community engagement efforts through digital marketing, content creation, event coordination, and media relations during summer 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute communications strategies including creating digital marketing assets such as graphics, photography, and video
- Create social media content to enhance storytelling and engagement on City of Fishers accounts
- Draft social media posts and blog posts after researching and interviewing
- Develop marketing materials using digital tools like Sprout Social and Canva
- Contribute ideas to expand reach and community interaction
- Assist content development for the City’s website
- Support media relations with drafting press releases, media advisories, and assisting interviews
- Collaborate with local businesses and nonprofits on community initiatives
- Coordinate and execute community engagement initiatives and special events requiring onsite presence
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old and enrolled in college pursuing a related degree
- Valid driver’s license with 3+ years driving experience and ability to be insured to drive city vehicle
- Availability to work in-person approximately 3 days a week for 20-25 hours
- Access to a vehicle for travel during work hours
- Own a laptop or computer for work
- Availability for some evening and weekend events
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, able to prioritize projects under deadlines
- Experience using social media platforms professionally
- Experience with graphic design, photography, and video
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
- Basic SEO knowledge
- Knowledge of content management systems (WordPress, SharePoint) is a plus
- Basic email marketing knowledge
- Knowledge of web technologies a bonus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Creative, flexible, self-directed, and receptive to feedback
Education
Enrolled in college pursuing Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related degree
