Community Manager - Job Summary

Manage and grow a global open-source community focused on decentralised web technologies by facilitating collaboration, engagement, and communication across diverse stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Outreach, engagement and onboarding for stakeholders in the Solid community including building, deploying and using the technology.
  • Create feedback loops between the community and internal ODI teams.
  • Own community engagement strategy across digital platforms and in-person events such as hackathons, symposiums, webinars, and social channels.
  • Schedule and facilitate internal and external meetings including specification, governance, and advisory committees.
  • Coordinate and support community-led alignment on open specifications.
  • Document key decisions to ensure continuity between contributors and leadership.
  • Facilitate collaboration between the Solid community and adjacent technical communities and standards groups.
  • Maintain and promote a catalogue of current Solid deployments, tools, use cases and related organisations.
  • Contribute to outreach efforts targeting adopters, developers, and ecosystem partners.
  • Coordinate and promote recurring community events and innovation challenges.
  • Engage with related ecosystems for visibility and presence at key external events.
  • Help consolidate communication infrastructure and improve accessibility of community communication platforms.
  • Enforce clear terms of reference and manage access and roles across collaboration tools.
  • Support business development and fundraising activities.

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing open-source communities and projects.
  • Technical literacy in web technologies, open-source licensing, or collaborative software development processes.
  • Ability to engage and foster relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience in business development including opportunity identification and client management.
  • Extensive experience organising events such as conferences, challenge prizes, or hackathons.
  • Strong networking skills with a record of building long-term partnerships.
  • Expert communication skills including proposal drafting and presentation delivery.
  • Strong organisational skills managing multiple workstreams.
  • Experience with collaborative tools such as GitHub, Matrix/Discord/Slack, Google Workspace.
  • Comfortable with open and transparent communication practices.
  • Ability to work independently and manage communication across time zones.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
